Venue Description

Leith Community Education Centre is one of the busiest community centres in Edinburgh and approximately 3,000 people come through its’ doors every week. It is situated on the first floor of the New Kirkgate Shopping Centre, in the heart of Leith. It was re-furbished in 2004 and boasts a Sports Hall, a smaller Hall, 4 general purpose rooms, a room which is suitable for crèches and also a Café. The Centre is extremely well used throughout the week, by more than 120 local groups and is in high demand as a venue for meetings, training events, AGMs and conferences.

Accessibility

The Centre is on the first floor of the New Kirkgate Shopping Centre and there is a lift on the ground floor, beside Superdrug. There is also a ramp from the ground floor parking area up to a small car park with two disabled parking spaces. The Centre has a disabled toilet which can be accessed by a RADAR key. A portable loop system is available for meetings and assistance dogs are welcome in the Centre.

Accessible Performances

The Centre has various groups which use the Centre, including People First and Edinburgh Advocating Together, but does not normally have performances as part of the programme.

Toilets

When you come into the Centre, turn left and go along the main corridor. You will see a door on your right hand side which is is marked 'Accessible Toilet and Baby Changing'. Go through this door and you will see the toilet on your left hand side (second door down). The toilet door can be opened by RADAR key. There is a large sign in the foyer which indicates where the toilets (and other facilities) are or the staff can advise you.

Staff

When you come into the Centre, there is an office on your left hand side where you will find the Janitor and/or the Facilities Co-ordinator.
