We are an independent community bookshop on the radical left, politically engaged and socially conscious. We celebrate diversity of thought and expression, championing voices from the margins. We house 10,000 titles across most genres, from politics, history, fiction and travel writing to Children’s books, tattoo art and cookery. We are particularly passionate about radical, left wing and Scottish politics, intersectional feminism, revolutionary history, environmentalism, LGBT+ writing, poetry and translated fiction. We’re open 7 days a week and have a vibrant year-round program of events, with one or two events a week as well as our regular book groups. Our big calendar highlights are the two big festivals we run, the Book Fringe in August and the Radical Book Fair in November

Good access, excellent access info

The first thing I will say is see their website for access info - which is great including the slop of the ramp that they lay out. A lovely lovely little bookshop. A few niggles: There is no way easy way to let them know you need the ramp (they say knock on the window which is high and hard to do so not accessible), hopefully to be fixed soon. Most of the aisles are big enough but there were a fair few obstructions and I had to back up/turn a few times. The little table which the badges are on is also too low to be accessible. Oh and they have a doggo that will try and play with you which is a) adorable but b) not particularly helpful if you can't kick the ball. Covid precautions are excellent and enforced.

Great range of books and fantastic staff

A great small independent bookshop. I could have spent ages browsing the books, so many great options and really well laid out into genres. I look forward to visiting again.

Disabled Access at Lighthouse - Edinburgh's Radical Bookshop

We have a portable wheelchair ramp. Our ramp has a 300kg carrying capacity and a usable width 77.5cm, it has a 1:6 ratio, which may not be suitable for all electric wheelchairs (sorry – the pavement is pretty narrow!). The shop itself is laid out so that a reader in (most) wheelchairs can do a full circuit of the shop. There is at least 90cm+ of navigable space through most of the shop, although the arches into the fiction room only have a width of 77cm.
