About

Our main offering is as a music and arts venue to serve the town of Galashiels and the wider area. The local community benefits from our activities through the varied live music and theatre productions programme. Recently, we have hosted bands and performers on the national circuit such as The Skids, Hamish Hawk, Callum Beattie and The Rezillos. Comedy performers from national TV have appeared recently, including Rich Hall and Ivo Graham, and we have benefitted from performances varying from Shakespearian plays to one man shows from David Hayman The venue is available to hire with activities ranging from amateur wrestling to the town’s brass band practice sessions, to small scale productions of plays and comedy acts from the national circuit.

Disabled Access at MacArts

The front entrance has stairs with a railing. We have a ramped side entrance which is suitable for wheelchair users and staff are on hand to direct. Doors are push doors and inside the building there are no steps however some slopes going into the auditorium and going to the toilet facilities. Doors are wide enough for standard wheelchairs but we can check in advance for any larger wheelchairs to ensure no access issues. Our staff will be on hand for any assistance and we are also available to discuss accessibility prior to any visit. We also have a dedicated seating area for non wheelchair users who require seating - this can be pre-booked on request however it is available on a first come, first served basis. Strobe lighting may be used in performances - check with the venue ahead of time if you require information on lighting. We operate a carers go free system for our own shows. On occasion, some promoters do not allow us to offer this option at their events, so please contact us direct for more details. We have a hearing loop in the main auditorium. Assistance dogs are welcome at MacArts. Although keep in mind they will be exposed to potentially loud music

There is step-free access to all or most areas. This may include access by ramp or lift.

Toilets features at MacArts

Our accessible toilets have step free access however a slope from the auditorium to the toilets and one internal door. The toilet is suitable for standard wheelchairs. For larger, powered wheelchairs we could check measurements in advance. The toilet has grab rails and easy turn taps.
