Overview

I was eager to go to Martin’s Tavern because over the years several US presidents have been known to frequent the venue. In particular it was where JFK proposed to Jackie! There’s level access to the tavern. It wasn’t particularly wide but still doable. We went on a Friday night so it was no surprise that it was busy. Although a little noisy there was a good atmosphere. The fact that it was busy did make it difficult to manoeuvre my wheelchair around but we did make it to the bar where we had to wait for a while before we got a table. We got a booth that president Truman used to dine at. To be honest the booths were far from ideal for wheelchair users to sit at but I was keen on eating at a booth that had previously been used by a president. There were alternative tables which were more suitable for a wheelchair user . There didn’t seem to be a disabled toilet and getting parked nearby was difficult. The food was great and I felt it was essential to have a “Jackie Kennedy cocktail”.I would definitely recommend Martins Tavern.

Transport & Parking

We travelled to the venue by car. It was a Friday night so everywhere was quiet busy. We could not see any disabled parking spaces so decided to look for a space on the street. We finally found a space near the venue. Unfortunately when we arrived back to the car after our meal we discovered we had parked in a bus stop and had a parking ticket 😩. The fact we parked in a bus stop suggests that you can travel to the venue by bus.

Access

Entrance to venue was a little tight but has level access. Inside was busy so a manoeuvring my wheelchair around was a little tricky but not impossible. The suitability of tables to eat at varied. Tables in booths were far from ideal. The other tables looked far more suited.

Do not think there was an a disabled loo but the standay Loos May have been accessible.
