McDonald's 40 Southgate Street, BATH
Whilst this accessible bathroom was clean, the layout of certain movable items was not accessible.
The sanitary bin had been placed lengthwise against the wall between the toilet and the waste bin, directly under the drop down support arm.
For safety and hygiene reasons, this sanitary bin should be operated by the foot pedal, but some people may end up having or feeling they should use the lid to open and that is not hygienic.
I moved this item to go alongside the waste bin which had its pedal facing into the room towards the toilet and so making both accessible.
My biggest concern was that there was NO red cord, so I was unable to add the Euan's guide card.
I spoke with the manager who advised she was aware that the red cord had been removed and said that unfortunately it is a regular problem because of drunks and antisocial behaviour. She advised that they had placed an order for a new one and it would be installed as soon as it arrived.
I did suggest that maybe they should order an extra one to keep in stock if this is a regular problem so that they always have one to put in and then place a new order.
I gave her details of Euan's Guide and another member of staff who had just arrived said she had seen one of these cards in the McDonald's at at The Coldra, by junction 24 on the M4.
I pointed out that it was me that had it added that card when I visited there recently and she pointed out that she was a McDonald's inspector and was interested to ensure that all of their bathrooms that were meant to be accessible met the appropriate standards. I gave her one of your cards and suggested she made contact with you as a business and sought to get a selection of cards that she could put up whenever she visited one of their premises.
Next time I am in bath for a show at one of their great venues. I will be visiting and doing a review to check if they now have a spare red cord and also if the card has been added and whether or not they have moved any of the bins.
