National Botanic Garden of Wales

I am a member of the NBG Wales. It is my happy place to go on my mobility scooter. There are several clearly sign posted disabled parking spaces and they are enough on non event days. More spaces needed for event days. The car park in other areas is not suitable for wheelchair users, those with lightweight power chairs and mobility scooters will struggle. Ok with a tramper or other all terrain chairs. They do provide a drop off point on event days. The toilets are a little restricted on space for manouvering. The doors are heavy too. Some of the paths could do with maintenance to make them smoother. You can visit the glass dome with a wheelchair etc. The shop allows wheelchairs and mobility scooters however the space is restrictive. The same in the cafe. There is a food court which is fully accessible. And also a small under cover seating area by the shop which is accessible with push buttons to open the doors. One is currently not working. The ladies toilet by the cafe as a dementia friendly toilet. There are mobility scooters for hire. Buggys driven by volunteers that can take you all round the gardens even to the areas you cannot access with wheelchairs etc. They are available at the entrance and you can request one at the shop at the top of the gardens.

I’d been several times previously before I had to use a wheelchair. The gardens are impressive and worth visiting but hard work in a self-propelled wheelchair. The staff suggested I drove round to the top entrance which they opened for me and confined my visit to the upper section of the gardens and the greenhouse itself. They do have golf style buggies for people who find walking difficult but they cannot accommodate somebody who cannot climb into them.

They have a large disabled Car Park close to the entrance. Al the door's are automatic. You can use a free Electric Wheelchair inside. There is a buggy service that will take you to the top of the hill or back down to the bottom, or even anywhere you want in the park.
