National Coal Mining Museum for England

Interesting museum on a former coal mine. Good range of exhibits and exhibitions above ground and the chance to go 140m underground for a tour led by a retired miner. Access above ground is better than underground, but this is to be expected. The museum looks to have tried to have made good reasonable adjustment to allow wheelchair users to experience the tour.

The National Coal Mining Museum offers impeccable facilities that meets the requirements of every individual within their presence. There are many grab/hand rails placed around the establishment providing support for those who may struggle with balance or mobility. The food within the canteen was delicious and the staff were very friendly and on hand for any enquiries. All of the machines and equipment are easily usable and interactive for all age types ranging from buttons that loudly commentate information, to play grounds and resources for young children.
