Calke abby

Started off badly but ended well. I tried to use my powered chair but it wasn’t suitable so ended up using there vehicles called tramppers. It was great fun but some parts had steps. The tramper was like a motorbike cross scooter. Easy to use. Training was given.

Disabled Access at National Trust - Calke Abbey

Calke Abbey sits in a 600 acre estate with areas of woodland, wetland and ponds. There are some accessible routes, while others have uneven terrain, slopes or shallow steps. The house, gardens, restaurant and shop are located near each other, surrounded by meadow land in the centre of the estate. Assistance dogs are welcome in all areas of Calke. Large print, Braille guides and a virtual tour are available. A full access statement can be found on our website.

There are 22 accessible spaces adjacent to the ticket office, and a further 10 spaces available for people with limited mobility (34 metres to ticket office). There is also accessible parking at the Calke Explore site.

There is an accessible toilet near the Ticket Office and in the garden, as well as a Changing Places toilet and accessible toilet at Calke Explore.

Changing Places toilet

There is a Changing Places toilet, which includes an adult-size changing bench, toilet, sink and hoist.

Accessible toilet

A designated accessible toilet designed for wheelchair users and others with visible and non-visible accessibility requirements is available within the main public areas.
