Nene Valley Railway

The Nene Valley Railway is one of the UK’s most distinctive heritage railways and is recognised as the country’s leading international steam and diesel attraction.

Based at Wansford Station in Cambridgeshire, the railway runs for 7.5 miles through the picturesque Nene Valley, serving the stations of Overton (for Ferry Meadows), Orton Mere, Yarwell Junction and Peterborough (Nene Valley).

Our Headquarters – Wansford Station

Wansford Station is the operational and administrative headquarters of the Nene Valley Railway and the main starting point for most journeys.

It is here that visitors will find the railway’s main facilities, including catering, shops, museum displays and attractions, as well as historic railway buildings that reflect the long and varied story of the site.

The station sits alongside the River Nene, with trains crossing the river via the impressive bridge and viaduct — a favourite spot for photographers and visitors alike.

Preserving the Past for the Future

As a registered charity, the Nene Valley Railway exists to preserve, restore and operate historic railway equipment, while providing education, enjoyment and inspiration to the public.

From historic steam locomotives to international diesel engines, carriages and wagons, the railway continues to develop its collection, facilities and visitor experiences through the support of volunteers, members, donors and partners.
