Video review of Nottingham Castle. One thing that isn't mentioned in the video is that the incline to the main entrance where the shop is located and where you can get your tickets to enter is quite steep and the ramp from there into the main building is incredibly steep too

    Disabled Access In and Around

    Rating Emoji

    Good

There was step-free access via lifts to all the different exhibits. There were automatic doors in many places. There was lots of seating available throughout the building and exhibits, some with backs and armrests and some without. Lighting and noise varied in the different exhibits. There were some steep inclines I had to navigate, the worst was going from the shop, where the ticket desk was, to the main castle building itself which had a major incline to navigate. The paths were smooth and that particular pathway had grab rails and places to sit along the path.

Accessible facilities: Lift to all areas, Step-free entrance, Seating at regular intervals, Step-free access to most areas

I travelled to this place by walk or wheel

There is a small car park next to the castle which is pay and display. There is a bit of an incline from the car park to the Castle's entrance.

Accessible facilities: Public or on street parking, Drop-off or pick up point

    Accessible Toilets

    Good

There were accessible toilets available inside the castle and I found them easy enough via the signage. The toilets didn't need a RADAR key to access them, they just had a standard door handle with a twist lock inside. The toilet I saw had a cistern behind the seat which had the flush on it. The flush was a lever with a rounded end, and it was mounted on the cistern. It was placed on the same side as the transfer area so you did not have to reach across the toilet to use it. There was space for a right-side transfer although there was a sanitary bin at the back of the space that may have caused an obstruction for some people, I was able to manage okay. The sink was a small sink with a manual tap that twisted to control both the flow and temperature of the water. There was a grab rail on either side of the sink. A red emergency cord was hanging freely to the floor between the sink and toilet.

    Facilities: Accessible toilet

    Staff

    Excellent

Staff were really lovely and friendly and there were lots of volunteers throughout the building who were quick to point me in the right direction of the lifts. Staff in the café brought my order over to my table once I had placed it at the counter which was really helpful for me.
