Overview

Patchway is a small station with a long history dating back to the 19th century. It’s more than just a small station serving the local town of Patchway, which I was surprised to learn is twinned with Clermont-l’Hérault in France and Gauting in Germany. On platform 1, there was an art installation named In Our Hands by Katie Hanning, which was several panels showing hands spelling out "Together We Are Stronger" in British Sign Language and was another unexpected surprise. It’s the local stop for Bristol Aerospace, which was my intended destination for the day.

Transport & Parking

3

There is a small car park near platform one. Of the 20 parking spaces at this location, only two are accessible parking spaces. There is plenty of space to be dropped off in the car park too. There is no parking at platform two. About 480 metres away, you’ll find the Titan Road bus stop, which serves the M4 service. The 12 operates from Kingsway Roundabout, which is about the same distance. Please note there is a bit of a stretch uphill when going towards the station, with a narrow path that was blocked by overgrown trees during my visit, requiring me to use the road.

Access

4

There is step-free access to both platforms via the lifts and the bridge. The lifts are large enough to comfortably fit two wheelchair users and have braille buttons, a lower-placed alarm button, grabrails and a hearing loop. There's a short walk over the platforms to the second lift to get down on the other side. Where there are stairs, there are tactile markings at the top and bottom and yellow paint on both the first and last step of each of the three levels. Each platform has a rain shelter with seats, as well as seats on the platform. The platforms on either side have tactile markings at the edges with yellow paint. Oddly, I didn't happen to spot a ticket machine, but there are smartcard readers at the lifts. Help points are available on the platforms with an intercom to contact a member of staff. As the station is unstaffed, it's best to book assistance ahead of time if possible.
