Positive steps towards accessibility

Overview

Pizza Express in the Cavendish Arcade, Buxton, like many of the same chain, is great for families and babies due to the great children's menu, baby change facilities and colouring pages. Children and families are obviously welcome here and they have made adaptations to help people with limited mobility too.

Transport & Parking

On street disabled parking in the Crescent is free to blue-badge holders, as are most of the Pay and Display car parks in Buxton. If you are lucky you can park on the street behind the restaurant (by the Old Courthouse shops)for a shorter distance to travel. Both parking options involve going over uneven terrain to get into the restaurant.

Access

3.5

The restaurant is split level so if you have mobility problems it is best to go in through the door in the Cavendish Arcade and not the one on Temple Rd. On this level there is a disabled access toilet with baby change facilities. A short flight of steps with handrail leads to the upper level near the window. We visited at a busy time(pre-theatre on a Friday and Valentines day) so there was little space between tables which could make access with a wheelchair difficult. However, by 7p.m. it was noticeably quieter.

Staff

The staff were good in terms of serving and listened very patiently to the requests of our children, but they took us to a table on the upper level without asking-I felt they could have made it easier for us by seating us on the lower level. I also noticed another diner with a crutch sat near us too so maybe some disability awareness training could be helpful.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

I would recommend booking a table if you plan to visit on the weekend and maybe specify where you would like to sit. It is nice to visit a heritage building which is accessible. The Cavendish Arcade is also home to a range of nice shops if you visit in the day.
