Overview

This is a spacious level access restaurant located on the top level of the Ocean Terminal shopping centre.

Transport & Parking

4.5

There is a multi-story car park attached to the Ocean Terminal. I was visiting The Royal Yacht Britannia during my visit and they recommended I park on level E to allow easier access to here. On this level there was plenty of accessible parking however, it was very dark when driving around and difficult to see the parking spaces. I noticed later on that the lights are environmentally friendly lights that go on when you get near them which is good but, I feel it was quite dangerous, especially walking/driving out with the car with other cars driving around. Due to not being from this area I don’t know anything about where or what public transport is available.

Access

4.5

I did not see a clear sign to say where to wait for a table however, there was a staff member (who I think was a manager) at the entrance when we arrived, and we got seated right away. Where you queue though is very spacious and there is plenty of room for customer to enter or leave whilst others are queuing. There are no doors to enter this restaurant so, you are able to easily enter. When I entered, I noticed there were some tables that I wouldn’t be able to get to due to the space in between them very narrow. Luckily there were three table in a row which were very spaced out. All tables were also at a great hight for wheelchair users. There are some tables across from the entrance, out with the restaurant, but still within the shopping centre.

Toilets

3.5

During my visit to Pizza Express I did not visit the accessible toilet, but I did take a photo. I can imagine that it wouldn’t be spacious enough for someone to transfer with some assisting. You would also only be able to transfer from the left side of the toilet and I don’t think there would be a lot of room at the front of the toilet because of where the sink is located (see image below). The door to enter the accessible toilet is a sliding door, I’m not sure if this would be easier or harder as I can’t open doors myself anyway. It could be quite difficult to line up a wheelchair and pull the door. There is no Changing Places toilet at the Ocean Terminal shopping centre. The closest one is at Royston Wardieburn Community Centre which is a 13 minute drive and approximately a 53 minute walk away from Ocean Terminal.

Staff

I felt like the staff member who showed us to our table was a little anxious about where would be best for us to sit for easier access however, he did ask us though. Our waiter Becca was extremely helpful and very welcoming, she definitely made our visit better.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

I went with my helper and we shared a delicious pizza and a chicken wing starter, was great because I was able to use my Tesco clubcard points here.
