Overview

We decided to spend a day out here. My son has a wheelchair so it was with relief that I found that the entire place was partially wheelchair friendly. We had a great time. The paths are mostly gravel and difficult but the house and views are worth the trouble. The cafe sells lovely tasty delicious scones- everyone who visits Polesden Lacey must try them. The staff are friendly and willing to make the effort to assist you. If you ask politely, they will even give you a accessible map. The site provides information on accessibility. Toilets are clean at least.

Transport & Parking

Come by car. That way you will find a disabled spot much easier to park in.

Access

5

The paths are rough which makes it difficult to move around in a wheelchair but not impossible. You can hire a wheelchair if necessary for a additional fee. Ask the staff about this when you get inside. Ground floor of the house is accessible. To access the terrace with stunning views of the Surrey hills and the walled garden you do need to cross a small area of grass which can be muddy and make your wheelchair dirty on a cold day. Keep in mind that not all of the walled garden or grounds are accessible because of a number of steps. There is a wheelchair accessible map available at the entrance. Plenty of parking available in the carpark as well.

Toilets

4.5

Two accessible toilets. One at the entrance to a small cafe next to the car park and another adjacent to the larger cafe. The doors are light weight and the facilities are generally kept clean. The sink and hand towels are at the correct height as the toilet flush.

Staff

Friendly and helpful.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

On hot days you can buy ice cream at the cabin. It also sells tea. There is a onsite lovely accessible plant shop worth visiting. I recommend spending a bit of money to appreciate the views on the sloping lawns with deckchairs or playing Frisbee as a family. Bring a picnic basket too. You must stop at the gift shop at the end and buy some souvenirs as a reminder of your trip. Polesden Lacey is situated in a tranquil spot. The cafe has indoor and outdoor seating.
