About

The world-famous garden, overhung with clipped yews, shelters rare and tender plants. Laid out under the influence of Italian and French styles, it retains its original lead statues and an orangery on the terraces. High on a rock above the terraces, the castle, originally built circa 1200, began life as a medieval fortress. Remodelled and embellished over more than 400 years, it reflects the changing needs and ambitions of the Herbert family - each generation adding to the magnificent collection of paintings, sculpture, furniture and tapestries.

Only the garden is wheelchair accessible

I love this place in my town, but I can only do the castle on a good day, because it isn't accessible. The beautiful gardens are all the year round wheelchair accessible. So is the shop ant the cafe.

Disabled Access Information Provided by Powis Castle and Garden

Disabled Access at Powis Castle and Garden

A step-free route of the gardens is available which takes visitors along the terraces and through the formal gardens. Wheelchairs are welcome but due to the step paths, 3 wheeled PMVs are not allowed access. A wheelchair accessible vehicle is available to drop visitors off at various points across the property. Unfortunately due to the historic nature of the Castle, there is no disabled access to the state rooms however, virtual tour is available in the restaurant.

Accessible parking at Powis Castle and Garden

Disabled parking is available at the bottom of the drive (approx 50m from ticket office) and an access vehicle is available if people need help getting to the main castle courtyard.
