Awkward EV charging bay layout

This car park was in a central spot with lots around it. While it had quite a good amount of accessible parking space and it was easy to travel between the car park and street level, the EV charging bays weren't very accessible. That is why I've rated this just average rather than good. If you were just looking for an accessible parking space, this is a good option, but the charging connectors have a difficult layout, especially for a wheelchair user like me. There was a bank of two lifts that travelled between street-level and the floors of the car park. The pedestrian entrance had an automatic sliding door that led into the lift lobby and there were also payment machines here. According to the website, this car park has a total of 554 parking spaces, including 30 accessible parking spaces and eight EV charging bays. It has a height restriction of 2.10 metres and is open 24/7. It’s a paid car park. There were accessible parking spaces on multiple floors that I went to. Some of the doors between the lift lobby and the parking bays were not automatic. The EV charging bays were identified with blue signs above the bays and were also painted with a charging symbol on the bay itself. Similarly, the accessible parking spaces had signs signs with a wheelchair symbol and also had a wheelchair symbol painted inside the bay. The EV charging points were all Type 2, 22kW chargers. They didn’t have cables, so you would need to have your own with you to charge here. The charging points were a little bit high and a bollard had been placed in front of them. Because of the bollard and the connector was mounted at the back of the space, it would require me to leave enough space behind the parked vehicle to get my wheelchair between the vehicle and the charging point. The spaces also didn’t seem to have the same amount of space as an accessible parking space so if they were very busy it could be too difficult to park here for someone that needs the extra space around the car, like myself. The bollard made it awkward to interact with the charging connector from my wheelchair.

There is step-free access from the street for pedestrians, with an automatic sliding door at the entrance to the lift lobby. On the ground floor there were two lifts and two payment machines. There was also a set of stairs to travel between floors as well and the stairs had grab rails on both sides. The payment machines had screens and parts that were quite high. However, you can pay in other ways so that you don’t have to use the payment machine. This may be helpful for those that might struggle to reach the higher points of the machines. You can pre-book parking at this car park via the Q-Park website. You can also use PayByPhone and RingGo via your phone to pay for your parking. The lifts had smooth buttons without any markings to call the lifts at each floor. Inside, the lift had a mirror on the back wall, a grab rail around the whole lift and tactile symbols by each button that also had Braille. The lifts were quite large. There was coloured signage to help find the location of accessible parking spaces and EV charging spaces. Red wheelchair signs were used to identify accessible parking spaces and blue charging signs were used for the EV bays. The EV bay layout was quite awkward, especially as a wheelchair user. They were standard size bays, so if they were all full I wouldn't have the necessary space around my car to be able to enter and exit. The connectors were at the back of the bay and had a bollard in front of it. This would mean that I would need to leave enough space between my parked vehicle and the bollard to get my wheelchair between them in order to use the connector. The bollard itself also made it awkward to reach the connector, especially from a wheelchair. The poor EV layout is why I can't give the access a higher rating.

This car park supposedly has a total of 554 parking spaces, including 30 accessible parking spaces and eight EV charging bays. This car park is located 350 metres away from Liverpool ONE bus station where there are a large number of bus and coach services available. It is also around 650 metres away from Liverpool Queen Square Bus Station where there are also a lot of bus services available. It is 350 metres away from the Liverpool Central Metro Station which is on the Wirral Line, and it’s around 750 metres away from Liverpool Lime Street Railway Station.

There are no toilets in this car park. The car park is close to the Liverpool ONE retail complex where you can find a left- and right-side transfer toilet and a Changing Places toilet.
