A quiet spot near the city

Overview

Recraigs Lodges provides an excellent alternative to staying in a hotel, being one bedroomed lodges approx 3 miles out of the Aberdeen City in a peaceful spot. Although the website doesn't show this, you can request the suction-type grab rails to use in the bathroom. The whole place is on one level, no steps anywhere, flat to enter and easy to get around in a wheelchair, with wood/ laminate flooring. There is a lounge/ kitchen/dining room, bathroom and one bedroom in each lodge.

Transport & Parking

You can park right outside your lodge, which is tarmac surface for parking. I went by car so not sure about public transport though I do know that the bus services in Aberdeen are generally very good.

Access

The lodges are all on one floor, have wood/ laminate flooring making it easy to get around in wheelchair or using walking aids. The rooms are spacious enough to be able to get about in a wheelchair. You can request suction-type grab rails from the owner to use in the bathroom. The shower is cubicle type with an approx 4-6" step in. You can suction a grab rail into shower cubicle and on left side of toilet. The bed in the bedroom is slightly low but I managed OK with arthritic knees!

Toilets

2.5

Toilet as described above. One suction-type grab rail available, which you can put to the left side of the toilet, which is a standard toilet.

The owner was very welcoming and friendly - available if needed for questions about the area, or the lodges. Left you too it, which I like, but on site if you had any questions. Very helpful on the phone when I rang in advance about the access.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

Redcraigs Lodges are really a lovely, and convenient spot, to stay if you want to visit Aberdeen and the surrounding area. They are just off a main road - Stonehaven to Aberdeen - so easy to find and approx 3 miles from the city centre. There are a number of National Trust for Scotland places to visit nearby, as well as many accessible venues within the city - Maritime Museum, theatre, shops, restaurants, etc.
