Reston Railway Station has to be one of the biggest small stations I have ever encountered, as well as one of the newest, having only opened in 2022. The platforms are set high above the ground, so you need to use either the lift or the stairs to reach them. If you want to cross between platforms, enjoy the view on the way. It is impressive station, although there are no station facilities such as waiting rooms or accessible toilets. There is no shortage of accessible parking spaces and step free access is available as long as the lift is working.
Disabled Access In and Around
Good
From the car park there is contrasting tactile paving leading to relevant areas such as the bus stop, the help point which has a hearing loop, the steps to platform 1 and the lifts to platform 1 and the walkway between both platforms. The lifts have braille buttons inside and out, with a lower alarm button for use in the event of a fall. Hearing loops are operational in the lift and on the platforms. Where there are steps there is tactile paving at the top and bottom, with each level change highlighted by a yellow strip. Rails are installed on both sides. As mentioned the walkway between the platforms is accessed by the lift. The walkway is very high but there are walls on either side. If you are brave you can peek over. If anything it offers a great view. On each platform there are rain shelters, metal benches and smartcard scanners. You'll also find help points on each platforms. A ticket machine can be found at the lift near the car park.

There are plenty of parking spaces at Reston, with 70 standard parking spaces and 12 full size accessible parking spaces with hatched markings located at the front of the station. In addition there are 12 EV spaces with six Type 2 (7 kW) terminals capable of charging two cars at a time. Sadly they are quite impractical. These pole shaped chargers are elevated, set upon a kerb but also set back, with a circular rail around the unit. These features make them difficult to access from a seated height and require users to step up to the charger to attach the cables. The card reader is on top of the machine, which adds another barrier. Such a shame for a brand new station. The station has drop off points and a bus stop served by the 253 Borders Buses route. If the EV charging situation was addressed I would score this higher.
