Overview

This review is of the cafe, shop and toilet, not the Seabird Experience. The half star off is only because of the parking situation which is not the responsibility of the Seabird Centre.

Transport & Parking

2.5

Parking in North Berwick is notoriously difficult. As others have pointed out, there are three disabled spaces near the bottom of the path to the Centre but they are usually occupied. The official Seabird Centre car park is at the top of Quality Street beside the Lodge Grounds. There is also some on-street parking.

Access

There is a smooth sloping tarmac path up to the entrance (photo 2). The doors open automatically with a push button which (unlike many) has always been working when we have been there. Inside the shop and cafe are all level with a hard surface which is easy to wheel on. There is room to push a chair between the displays. The cafe has seating inside and out with lovely views of the Bass Rock and the East Beach in the town. There is space to move a wheelchair between the tables. Hot meals are served until quite late in the afternoon. I know there is a lift down to the actual Seabird Experience but we have not been there recently.

Toilets

5

This is very clearly signposted, accessed through a door from the shop and down a corridor. There is room for a wheelchair user and assistant and horizontal rails on each side of the toilet- one drop down and one wall mounted. The red cord goes to the floor.

All very helpful on a busy afternoon.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

Immediately outside the entrance is an attractive little terrace with a number of seats around it. It's easy to wheel down to the harbour nearby where there are a lot of seats with armrests and back rests.
