Overview

Pub 4 of the first day of my accessibility pub crawl in Broughty Ferry. This bar/restaurant serves tapas by the seaside. Food is mainly served upstairs however, it is available to have downstairs if you are not able to get upstairs.

Transport & Parking

A council car park with disabled spaces is nearby, as well as other car parks/on street parking close by and taxi rank is also nearby. There are also plenty of buses that pass through Broughty Ferry on regular basis. A train station is also situated in Broughty Ferry although I don’t know anything about how often they stop, I know it’s not that much though.

Access

There was a small ramp placed at the step to Sol Y Sombra which meant that I didn’t have to wait and ask to get inside. The step was a little higher than the ramp though, so I struggled to get some of my wheels up, although I just took a big run up and finally managed. I needed someone to help me come down the ramp due to the slight step and me not having much upper body strength. The door is quite narrow, however I managed to get my wheelchair through with just a little space at either side. There are only a few tables that are a suitable height for my wheelchair however, there weren’t any free when we visited. So, we sat at the bar and I just needed assistance to reach my drink.

Toilets

There is a disabled toilet on the access level of Sol Y Sombra however it is quite small. There is no changing place toilet though. Down at the beach in Broughty Ferry there is a changing place although, it is only open till 5pm in the Summer and 3:30pm in the Winter.

Staff

All staff were very friendly when I visited this bar and were chatting to us all whilst we were sitting at the bar. Phil the owner of Sol Y Sombra gave us a free drink each and a bowl of nibbles which was very kind of him.
