Changing Places toilet at Swansea station

The Changing Places toilet at Swansea station was very spacious and easy to locate. As with all the other toilets in the station, you have to go through the ticket barriers to reach the toilet. There is very clear signage with the Changing Places symbol which makes it easy to spot from the main part of the station. As the station is one level throughout, there are no stairs, lifts or ramps to navigate to get to the toilet. If you aren’t ready to board your train, the staff are happy to assist you through the ticket barriers. The toilet was accessed with a RADAR key and the door wasn’t too heavy. It had lots of space inside and had a large height-adjustable bench, a ceiling hoist, a Closomat toilet and a height-adjustable sink. Aside from one of the two toilet flushes being broken and the Closomat control being out of reach, the equipment seemed in good working order. Although, I didn’t see any instructions or weight limits anywhere.

Croeso i Abertawe / Welcome to Swansea

Swansea train station is a fairly small station which I found very easy to navigate. The staff were really friendly and helpful from the moment I arrived to the moment I departed. They were waiting with a ramp to assist me off the train and assisted me onto my return train in plenty of time before its departure. It had two accessible toilets, one of which was a Changing Places toilet. All the toilets were behind the ticket barriers but staff were happy to assist with getting through the barriers when I missed them the first time around! The whole station is on one level, so there are no lifts or stairs to navigate. All the platforms had tactile paving to mark the edge of the platforms and there was seating on them too. The station had a covered waiting room, a ticket office with a lowered counter, an information and assistance desk, a Costa and a WHSmith. Everything was very clearly marked and signposted.

First Class experience from start to finish

From entering the station in Swansea City Centre to leaving the station in Cardiff Central, everything was top notch! The train staff were on top-form from the minute I arrived. I had assistance as soon as I approached the platform entrance, the gates were opened for me to go straight through and a female member of staff was waiting to take me to the First Class carriage where the wheelchair section was located on the train. I only had a standard class ticket, however this was instantly upgraded to First Class and all staff aboard the train treated me as such. We were given complimentary soft and hot drinks and also offered snacks to go with them. They regularly spoke with me to ensure I had everything that I needed.
