Overview
A very special shout out to Tea on the Green café in Acomb. Despite being a fairly small venue, they are very dog friendly & your dog can have a lovely walk/run on the green opposite beforehand to get rid of some energy. However, this Thursday, the staff went above & beyond to accommodate our lovely group especially me, in addition to using a wheelchair, I am gluten & dairy intolerant. You treated me with inclusivity, gentleness & kindness. The staff moved furniture around to accommodate my electric wheelchair (which folded up) & delved deep into the freezer to make sure they found gluten & dairy free scones so that i could eat the same as we everyone else & didn’t have to be different, which is often my normal experience. Scones are one of my favourites. I can rarely find places where i can indulge. They were ‘yummy’. My overall experience was ‘exceptional & extraordinary’ & my friend said that seeing my reaction made her day more than it being her birthday🤗. Thank you Tea on the Green🥰.
Transport & Parking
I got the bus into Acomb, 5 & 5a stop on the opposite side of the road. Parking is on the side of the road. Quite a few people parking had blue badges in
Access
There is a narrow corridor to get into the cafe. If in wheelchair its a right angle turn into the cafe. Once in its a small cafe. If you book in advance they are happy to accommodate. I was able to fold up my electric chair once in & transfer to a chair.
Toilets
I didn't use them so can't comment. My friends said the toilets are outside at the side of the building. If you have difficulty walking this may to far for you.
Staff
Friendly, accommodating, inclusive. They were even able to prepare a sandwich & scone for me that was suitable for my intolerances of gluten & dairy.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
They are dog friendly. There is a green space opposite to exercise your dog. This cafe is quite small. There is not a lot of space between tables.
