Overview
I went twice in one month it was so interesting! Both times were mid week afternoons and the museum was very quiet, first time no other visitors and the second time I saw two in passing. I had almost no problems with accessibility in my electric wheelchair. The staff were very helpful, friendy and knowledgeable. The food was amazing and they have plenty gluten free options.
Transport & Parking
There are two or three disabled parking spaces nearest to the museum. Disabled parking is free
Access
There are ramps, a lift to get to upper galleries, I didn’t have any trouble getting around the exhibits but a very wide wheelchair might and would also likely struggle to get through some of the doors. Turning was an issue at times going from one room into small corridors and there are carpets in a lot of areas that moved with my wheels, a manual wheelchair may be harder to self-propell on the carpets.
Toilets
The accessible toilet was very nice, fresh and clean and my electric wheelchair had enough space. The door was very slim though and I just squeezed in (seat width 16” and back of chair a bit wider). There were grab rails
Staff
Staff were friendly and, very knowledgeable but not ‘in your face’. Spoke to me instead of my carer (which many people do) and they were lovely and helpful.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
We spent 5 hours in total going through and reading everything, there is so much to see and learn, so many amazing things to see that actually belonged to soldiers. It was facinating! Highly recommend. Carers get in free.
