Overview
Walked around the grounds. Visited an varying exhibits and had lunch in the café.
Transport & Parking
I walked to the venue as I live locally. There is accessible parking at the rear but it's not ideal as it has no side spaces and there's a dip (an old fashioned drain ) on entry into the space. Photos will show you exactly what I mean. This makes it tricky if you're a wheel user. There are numerous pot holes too in the main car park through which I walk. They're doing their best though and I believe there are plans to improve this.
Access
The accessible access is to the right of the building if you face the front. There is signage but it isn't that noticeable. There's a buzzer which when pressed, staff attend and entrance is granted . It's easier to leave as you're not required to be assisted by staff as long as you shut the door firmly behind you. The paving leading to the entrance is not ideal.
Toilets
The accessible toilet is to the right of the accessible entrance. It's clean and tidy. Has grab rails and is big enough for a wheelchair and carer.
Staff
The staff are friendly and willing to help if required. The café staff were saying they could accommodate with notice, a party of up to 10 with accessible requirements. The café is well laid out with space for wheel users.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
The museum has lifts to all Upper areas with push button openers to the exhibition areas. Well done Bowes Museum I think you're offering excellent facilities and are keen to improve further.
