Excellent
Self service café in Connaught Gardens open for breakfasts and lunches and some evenings. However, their star attraction are their humongous cakes, delicious, homemade and served in large portions.
Disabled Access In and Around
Excellent
Step free route to café through Connaught Gardens, see my separate review. The ground floor which has a self service counter and indoor seating restaurant is step free. There is also some step free outdoor tables. I think there were steps by the entrance going upstairs but I don't know if they have additional tables upstairs.
Parking & Transport
Excellent
Sidmouth doesn't have a railway station. The 9 or 9A bus from Exeter takes about 35 - 45 minutes and stops at the Sidmouth Triangle. There are other local bus services that go to Sidmouth. In the summer season the Sidmouth Hopper Bus stops at various points of interest in the town, it is step free and has a space for a wheelchair user. From the Sidmouth Triangle, where most of the buses stop, it only takes a couple of minutes to the step free entrance of Connaught Gardens.
Accessible Toilets
Good
I'm not sure if there is a toilet accessible or not in the restaurant. However in the gardens there is a disabled toilet which requires a radar key.
Staff
Excellent
Staff were mega helpful. They really went out of their way to help. When I visited the café was extremely busy and all the outdoor tables were taken. However people were allowed to take their tray to one of the benches in the gardens. I noticed the staff doing this for some customers and also clearing away when customers had finished eating. When I went in I asked if someone could assist me and carry my tray for me. This was done willingly.
Additional Information
The café is in a beautiful setting and well worth visiting. OMG their homemade cakes are utterly delicious and portion sizes are huge. Food nicely presented and my homemade lemonade was served with a piece of lavender. Connaught Gardens is free to visit.
