So much open space and road-sized paths!

Overview

This is a fantastic open space in Falkirk, not too far from Grangemouth. The Helix is made up of three main parts and includes the famous Kelpie sculptures (massive water horses). The access into and around this park is great, as all the paths are smooth surfaced and are wide enough to let a truck through (which is exactly what they are used for when there are deliveries or waste removal).

Transport & Parking

3.5

In the winter months, the park is quite quiet and so parking is not a problem. It's a different story in summer however when there is often overspill parking at the Falkirk football stadium. The car parks are quite gravelly, but I noticed that they had smooth-surfaced the accessible parking spaces which was great. Public transport isn't phenomenal, but I have seen a bus drop people off here (although as far as I know it doesn't pick people up again...). It really is best accessed by car, taxi or by walking along the canal waterway.

Access

4.5

Ample space, wide smooth paths and accessible toilets dotted throughout - this really is a great accessible greenspace. I loved the wetland area with winding boardwalk, it had been raining and wasn't too slippy at all. The toilets I came across were clean and spacious, and the signposting throughout this park is fantastic. The cafes are all easily accessible too!

Toilets

4.5

It's great to see a park with so many facilities without disrupting the nature or green space. I came across three public toilet buildings while walking through the Helix, and they all had accessible toilets. I even spotted a Euan's Guide Red Cord Card in one!

Staff

5

The staff couldn't be friendlier. They are found working in the cafes, shops and offices, or out working on the ground. Everyone I encountered was happy to offer assistance.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

This is a great place to come and unwind, watch the swans or simply wander around the green space. It does get a bit crowded in summer, but this lends itself to a really nice atmosphere!
