Overall Rating
Average
The Hexagon Theatre in Reading, built in 1977, reflects the accessibility standards of its era rather than modern expectations. While improvements have been made over the years, disabled access remains limited in some areas, particularly as the balcony seating is only accessible by stairs and accessible parking is restricted. For a major public venue, it is disappointing that people with mobility impairments still face barriers that many newer theatres have eliminated.
Disabled Access In and Around
Poor
The Hexagon offers good step-free access for the lower levels (Arena and Stalls), but has significant physical limitations on the upper levels (Circle and Balcony) due to its 1977 brutalist architecture.
Parking & Transport

I travelled to this place by personal vehicle
Closest Blue Badge Parking Options Reading Civic B Car Park. 3-minute walk located directly underneath the civic centre. This is the most frequently recommended option for Hexagon visitors. It features designated disabled parking bays. However charges apply via coins or mobile parking apps. Alternatively there are a limited blue badge on street parking bays, 4 hour restriction. The bays are situated away from the theatre. Those with limited mobility can use the designated drop-off area directly at the front door.
Accessible facilities: Public or on street parking
Accessible Toilets
Bad
There is one dedicated accessible (disabled) toilet in the main building of The Hexagon located in the Lower Foyer (opposite the Stalls Bar). There are no accessible toilets on the upper levels.
Staff
Excellent
The staff are approachable and helpful.
