We had a wonderful stay at the Hollies, Appleby. Our group included a person with learning difficulties who also has pronounced mobility problems. The hosts provided us with a wide range of mobility aids that were most helpful, some of which were completely new to us. For example there is a metal frame that neatly slides under the mattress and provides a handle which you can use to shuffle yourself into position. The grab rails around to loo and bathrooms in general were substantial and really most helpful when all you can do is shuffle between places. The wheeled shower chair with back and arms and with adjustable height was great to use and took the stress out of using the bathroom. It could also be used as transport between bedroom and bathroom when necessary. We found lots of accessible power points, which are useful these days if you have electronic devices to recharge. We all slept soundly each night and had great times during the day. Having the right accommodation meant that we could really enjoy our days out. The loan of a foldable wheel chair was just what was needed. It made a lot of our activities possible as opposed to impossible. Not having to pack a wheelchair saves a lot of boot space. In our case we are at the stage of coming out of denial that we actually needed a wheel chair (which we certainly did). So we took the wheelchair along as backup and sure enough the request to use the chair came down the line. So, this venue has plated a role in making a difficult transition. So, I would recommend this place not only as suitable for the disabled but as a place to become familiar with what aids are available and a great place to learn to use them if you are relatively new to the need for help. Our hosts were wonderful friendly and, most importantly, understanding people. There helpfulness and local knowledge helped make are holiday a spectacular success. To be honest, it has been one of the best holidays we have had... ever.

I think you have just confirmed to us that we have succeeded in our objective of providing a place suitable for everyone who is disabled, in whatever way, to have an enjoyable holiday, with their family or carers. I am pleased we were able to introduce you to aids you were unaware of that were a help to you.
