Acorn Bank

This National Trust property has 3 disabled parking places that are right by the entrance. I had arranged to borrow a tramper via the Outdoor Mobility scheme. These are available in morning or afternoon slots of about 2 hours, which was plenty of time to follow all the tramper accessible trails and have a brew at the cafe. We were given a map that was clearly marked as to which trails were suitable for the tramper and more importantly, which were not. The grounds are on a steep slope and some of the tracks were not suitable for the tramper, these were also clearly marked with signs. The tracks you are able to take are not level, with tree roots etc through the woodland. This was easily coped with by the tramper but could be difficult with a pushed wheelchair or for those ambulant but using aids such as a rollator. The trail took us along the top of the slope through beautiful woodland, covered in daffodils to a mill, which is still working. You then go back along the same oath and past the buildings to an old gypsum mine. There were views to the lower paths by the river. The cafe is in a level courtyard and there are disabled toilets there too. We took the tramper through the orchard along grassy and flat paths. There is a bookshop in the house which was on the ground floor. I would recommend this as a lovely “ walk” using the tramper
