Lovely pub which meets my accessibility needs

Overview

Please note: this review applies to the pub only, not to the upstairs theatre. This is my nearest local pub and I love it here. There are lots of pubs in Kentish Town and of the local pubs in NW5 that I have been to this one has the best accessibility to meet my needs. The staff have always been friendly towards me and helpful. I feel they genuinely appreciate my custom. It has good cocktails and fancy drinks. The food is rather 'posh' and priced accordingly, i.e. it's gastro pub food not pub grub food. Sometimes need to book especially Sunday roast gets busy.

Transport & Parking

I live 200m from this pub so went on my mobility scooter [mine is a pedestrian style class II]. There was room in the pub for moving around and to leave my mobility scooter unfolded next to our table. The pavements in this area are quite uneven. There is street parking nearby including a mixture of blue badge spaces, paid for spaces, car club, and resident permit holders (free for use at certain times of day like evenings - check Camden Council website for up-to-date info). There are various bike racks on the streets nearby and dock-less bikes generally available nearby (but note that bicycle theft is quite high in Kentish town). The nearest tube station is 400m away - Kentish Town on the Northern line does not have step free access and is shut for refurbishment (due to reopen summer 2024). The Thames Link Kentish Town station is still running but is not step free and the nearest London overground stations (Kentish Town West and/or Camden Road) are not step free either. There is a bus stop 200m from the pub.

Access

4.5

I can wheel straight in to the pub via the front door because it is flat without steps. The tables are spread out so that there was room for me to wheel around in between the tables without other customers needing to move. I could see everything I needed. A staff member came to the door to see if I needed any assistance. We had the choice to order at the bar or use the app. I chose to use their app because that way I can order and they bring it to the table rather than me moving to order at the bar and then attempting to carry the drinks. The app allows for giving plenty of details such as "I'd like a small amount of ice in my drink" and has space for additional comments. The pub is dog friendly and allows pet dogs so there are typically a few around.

The accessible loo is on the ground floor with step free access. There is the radar key scheme and/or the staff open it. It has plenty of space for me to manoeuvre. It was very clean and tidy. The hand dryer is at wheelchair height.

Staff

The staff are very helpful here and friendly on every occasion I have been to this pub. When I arrived they made sure I had what I needed. When we moved table (because a large party with a lot of babies had arrived) they came to move chairs away to give us space.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

I used the app to order so no need to get up to go to the bar which helps reduce social contact if there's lots of people in that part of the pub. The tables were quite far apart too so I didn't feel crowded. I will definitely visit again. There is a pub-theatre upstairs but I have not been to it. None of this review applies to the theatre.
