Inaccessible and a rude manager

1.5

Visit date:

This review is especially helpful for those who have or use the following: Walking Aid, Wheelchair, Hidden Impairment

Overview

I went to use the disabled toilets but it was locked by a coded padlock and being used for storage. When I told the manager they shouldn't be doing that he was very rude and said I was coming across as mean. All other staff members were polite and helpful.

Transport & Parking

2.5

They are just outside a train station with a lot of taxis operating and a large car park but they are on a hill so the journey from car park to pub was difficult. They have their own small carpark but no lines for spaces or disabled bays and it is very steeply sloped.

Access

0.5

There were a lot of steps and the main entrance had a lot of large bumps I couldn't get over in my wheelchair unassisted. The step into every entrance door was large and they had no ramps they could get for me

Toilets

0.5

The hallway to the disabled toilets was very narrow and had very little room to turn in. There was a coded padlock on the disabled toilet that only a manager knew the combination to. When the manager opened the door it was full of storage. There was a basket in the doorway which because of the sink I couldn't push it out the way and couldn't fit in the door, there were 4 very large speakers stacked in there and some other things that meant I couldn't use it. The manager had to come back and empty out the room for me.

Staff

When the manager came to open the door he said "it's being used for storage" whilst leaving very quickly. My partner had to go and find them again and when he came back I said "you shouldn't really be using it for storage" and he said he was doing his best by getting me the code and coming back to empty it out. He sounded defensive so I said I'm not trying to me mean about it and he responded "that's how it was coming across". I said well I'm disabled and I need the toilet so it's not really fair, he continued to empty out the storage without speaking or making eye contact and then left. No one ever apologised to me. All the other staff members were very helpful and polite and held doors open for me.
