The Polar Museum: Discover the extraordinary stories of Earth's coldest, driest, windiest, highest and deadliest places, from heroes to modern climate science. The Museum is part of the Scott Polar Research Institute, established in 1920 as part of the University of Cambridge, which is a centre of excellence in the study of the Arctic and Antarctic. Research covers both the natural and social sciences and is often interdisciplinary. The Institute also houses the World's premier Polar Library and extensive archival and photographic collections of international importance on the history of polar exploration. A range of sculptures are displayed in the Institute grounds.

Small museum. Well worth a visit

The ramp access is to the side of the museum and is clearly sign-posted at the front of the museum. The front access has three steps up to the door. Once inside the museum is it all on one level and there is lots of space to manoeuvre about. There's quite a few display cases with lots of artefacts and articles to read.

Interesting little museum with good access

We used to live just below the Arctic circle in Finland, so we wanted to visit this little museum while we were on holiday in Cambridge. We spent about an hour and a half there and had a lovely morning.

Disabled Access at The Polar Museum

Step free access to the Institute is available using a ramp, accessible via the car park. A tactile map of The Polar Museum floor plan is available for visitors to use upon request. The Polar Museum also has a wheelchair available for visitors to use. Please ask on the day when you arrive, or call or email us to book it in advance. Step free access, a wide door and easy turn locks and taps. Unfortunately the door is not powered.
