Excellent Accessibility Apart from the High Bed

I’m a wheelchair user and stayed in adapted room 101. There were two disabled parking spaces right outside the hotel. Perfect for cars and wheelchair accessible vans with rear ramps. Easy to access the hotel via the side entrance (near the spaces) and book in. Staff were very helpful. The room is on the 1st floor and near the lifts. There was a lot of room to manoeuvre my wheelchair both in the bedroom and the bathroom. There were plug points next to the bed on both sides which is very helpful as someone who uses a bi-pap machine at night. There was also a button to open the front door electronically which was really helpful, you just have to wait a little while for it to close. The bathroom had a seat raiser (as requested when I booked) which made the seat the right height to transfer from my wheelchair (otherwise the seat is very low). The shower had a shower seat with arms that could be lifted, and the chair should also be pushed away if not needed. The shower had numerous jets up the wall for a full shower. The sink is lowered and has room under it but I wasn’t able to get under it, however the tape is near the front so it was still accessible for me. Wonderful views over St Katherines Dock via a window covering the length of the room. Very quiet too, you forget you’re in London as you don’t hear the traffic etc from there, only the odd plane flying over. The only issue I had was the bed is very high and was extremely hard to get onto from my wheelchair (you really have to climb into the bed if you can). Breakfast was nice and check out was easy. The only frustration is trying to get a lift with room in. We tried to go to breakfast just before 9 and waited 15 minutes for a lift, before we decided to get a lift going up (as they were more empty) and go on a little journey up to the top and down again. This affected everyone but was a bit harder for me due to the space of a wheelchair. Would stay again if the bed was lower for transferring into. If you are planning on staying as a wheelchair user I’d suggest room 101, or ask when booking in relation to your access needs as I know one of their other accessible rooms wasn’t suitable for my needs

My top pick for travelling solo in London

I have been staying at this hotel for business over the past 5yrs with my guide dog and this is mainly down to the staff and partly because there is an area of grass there to spend my dog. The staff couldn't be more helpful and a number of them no me from previous visits. I am always taken to my room (when I was really regular they always assigned me the same room). At breakfast the staff are more than happy to get my food from the buffet and pour my tea etc. The lifts have tactile buttons and audio announcements. Whilst I always request a standard room I have stayed in their accessible rooms. These are very large and have a wet room with multi-jet shower, which I would say is convenient for someone with limited mobility - I always find the water a bit too cool in these showers, but definitely accessible. I rave the Tower and couldn't think of a better business to be the subject of my first post.
