Overview
Accessible cafe with friendly staff. Handy car parking if required. 2 entrances both automated. 2 options for seating indoors and a lovely outdoor area too, weather permitting.
Transport & Parking
I live in Barnard Castle so I walked. However there are accessible car parking spaces adjacent to the café entrance near the library. The accessible spaces nearest the café are on a slope so be warned.
Access
There are two entrances. Both will be shown in the photos. One has automated doors at the library and outside space entry. The other entrance is on the main street. This has a gentle ramp and push button system. Be warned that the door opens towards you.
Toilets
The accessible toilet is to the right hand side of the lift if entering from the street. It's also a baby change area so can be busy. There are grab rails and it's clean and tidy. The lift is out of order and has been for some time. If you enter at the Street level you will have access to the accessible toilet but will not be able to order from the café without help as there are steps. If you enter via the garden entrance you will be able to order but won't have access to the accessible toilet.
Staff
The staff are friendly and helpful. Many are volunteers as well as paid staff. I find it easier to sit in the gallery end of the cafe as it has more space for my Veloped. The downside is you have to use the lift to order but it's clean and very prompt. CURRENTLY THE LIFT IS NOT WORKING.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
It was my preferred café in Barney. I use it all the time. Due to the lift issues I am no longer a regular user. They are dog friendly too.
