    Pretty gardens

Lovely place to visit. Level entrance to the Visitor centre, shop and cafe and a gentle slope with handrail out to the gardens. After that the paths become steep and I struggled to stop my walker running away from me. The walled garden was fine gravel but not exceptionally deep so I had no issue there. The greenhouse doors are narrow and I struggled to manoeuvre around. From there you have to backtrack up to the main path and then it's all uphill from there. Lovely view up towards the house, especially when we visited and the daffodils were in full bloom. The contemplation garden was fully accessible as they have filled the previous gaps in with bonded resin to level it out. From that point onwards the path gets really steep so extremely difficult for wheelchairs and walker users. It can be done if you have help but even with assistance I was exhausted by the top. We decided against the Woodland walk as there aren't proper paths so went along behind the house and back to the visitor centre for refreshments. Worth a visit but be prepared for the steep paths.

Mostly accessible gardens though some steep slopes

We enjoyed a day out at Threave whilst on holiday in the area. We had intended to visit the house but it was closed on Tuesdays and isn't accessible anyway due to steps. It was a lovely day though so we spent the morning in the gardens before having lunch in the cafe.

Extensive Gardens on a large estate

Lovely gardens with some beautiful planting. Many plants were labelled but not all. Unfortunately, the site is on a hill, which is a challenge on a walker. The walled garden was lovely, though it took me 30 minutes to get down to it. The last part was reasonably level, so much less tricky than the long slope down. The visitor centre is a great place to go for coffee and cake, or a light meal, and the imaginative menu was locally sourced.
