Venue Description

Unity Kitchen Cafe is a fully accessible social enterprise that caters for the visitors of the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. With an emphasis on good quality ingredients, Unity Kitchen Cafe offers healthy breakfasts, chilled sandwiches and salads, hot lunches and sweet treats, plus a range of snacks & drinks. We reinvest all profits into the business and providing work, training and qualifications to people with disabilities. Unity Kitchen Cafe is family-friendly, food-friendly and most importantly people-friendly. We're located next to the Tumbling Bay children's playground.

Accessibility

Unity Kitchen Cafe is on one level and has wide automatic doors which can all be operated with large push buttons. We have fully accessible bathrooms and changing rooms, along with accessible signage throughout the cafe. Our serving counters are also of varied heights to cater for all. Our staff are fully trained in food hygiene and disability awareness.

Accessible Performances

As the event space at Unity Kitchen Cafe can be hired, we have a wide range of private events that take place there. Our sister organisation, the Camden Society, often hold live music events, featuring musicians and bands of people with disabilities and friends of The Camden Society. These events are public and have viewing spaces, as well as taking place in an accessible space.

Awards List

Unity Kitchen Cafe won the 2014 Selwyn Goldsmith Award for Universal Design - this was part of the Civic Trust Awards, focusing on accessibility and good design. We have also been featured in many 'top-ten'/'london cafe' columns and reviews such as here: bit.ly/1rayHlT

Toilets

All toilets are on a flat surface with wide doors which can be operated manually or automatically via locks or large push buttons. There are grab rails for visitors to hold on to. The toilets are also checked and cleaned throughout the day.

Staff

One of our objectives as a social enterprise is to provide quality work, training and qualifications for people with disabilities. On your travels throughout Unity Kitchen Cafe you will meet a wide range of staff, both with disabilities and without, who will be on hand to make sure that your experience is as positive and accessible as can be. All staff are provided with core training including health and safety, food hygiene and disability awareness.
