Hoist Failure.
This review has been written to provide feedback on our recent stay at the hotel, where we were allocated Room 205 — an accessible room booked specifically because it offered the facilities our daughter requires. On a positive note, it is encouraging to see a hotel taking steps to be inclusive by providing essential equipment such as a hoist and a shower chair for guests with mobility needs. This was the main reason we chose to stay here.
Unfortunately, several issues affected our experience. When we attempted to get our daughter into bed, we discovered that the hoist was not working. It appeared that it had not been charged by the hotel, leaving us no option but to lift our daughter manually a situation that was extremely distressing for her and placed unnecessary strain on us.
A further concern, which I would consider a health and safety issue, relates to where the hoist is stored. The hoist and its charging station were kept in a high cupboard, despite the fact that such equipment must remain on charge when not in use. I had to stand on a chair to reach it in order to plug it in, and although it was fully charged by the next day, this is clearly not a safe arrangement. Had I fallen, it raises serious questions about responsibility and risk management.
We raised these concerns with the Hotel Management during our stay, and I also spoke to the Duty Manager on Friday night regarding the hoist failure. Unfortunately, we felt there was very little empathy shown, and although I followed up with further correspondence by email, it felt as though our concerns were not fully acknowledged or acted upon.
The Blue Badge parking arrangements were also very convenient. We were able to park on the side street adjacent to the hotel, where there are no time restrictions, which made things much easier for us.
