Overview

This Changing Places Toilet is located on the ground floor of Westfield Stratford (middle floor). It is near the middle of the shopping centre and there is a Changing Places symbol on the overhead signage to show where it’s located. It was a lovely, clean toilet and felt very modern. It was well-equipped and accessed with a RADAR key. It was a nice experience using the toilet, however, an issue with the flush and no sign of any emergency cords or alarms made me concerned about safety and maintenance.

Transport & Parking

Westfield Stratford has three multi-storey car parks with accessible parking bays in all three. There is also EV charging available in each of the car parks. Stratford Station brings you to the entrance of the shopping centre and has Central, Jubilee, Elizabeth, Overground, DLR and National Rail services that run through the station. Stratford International is just 140 metres from the other end of the shopping centre and has DLR and National Rail services that operate from there. Stratford Bus Station and Stratford City Bus Station are both a short distance from the entrance to the shopping centre and there are a large number of buses that stop, including: 25, 69, 86, 97, 104, 108, 158, 238, 241, 257, 262, 276, 308, 339, 388, 425, 473, 678, D8, N8, N25, N86, N205

Access

The flooring on all levels of the shopping centre is very smooth tiling. The walkways are fairly wide although it can be tricky to navigate when the centre is busy. This toilet was down a corridor off the main walkway which led to a bank of lifts and toilets.

Toilets

The toilet was operated by a RADAR key, opened outwards and was quite light to open. On the inside of the door there weren’t any grab rails or coat hooks. There was a wall-mounted, height-adjustable bench and a ceiling hoist that was able to reach all areas of the room. The paper roll dispenser for the bench was stocked, however, it was mounted very high on the wall. The toilet has two static grab rails mounted on the wall and two others that could be raised and lowered. The flush was a small button on top of the cistern but it was incredibly hard to push. I struggled for a few minutes to get it to work. The height-adjustable sink had a manually operated tap with a large handle (no automatic sensors). A wall-mounted soap dispenser was just above the centre of the sink. An automatic hand dryer was mounted on the wall to the left of the sink and to the right was a paper towel dispenser. There was a large bin that was able to take all kinds of waste and had a foot-pedal to open but could also be lifted by hand. A really large mirror was also mounted on the wall by the door. I looked over the whole room and wasn’t able to find any emergency cords inside this toilet. I couldn’t even see a ceiling outlet where perhaps the cord had been previously cut or tied. I also looked to see if there were buttons on the wall that could be used to alert someone but wasn’t able to find anything.
