Overview

Weston Park is fully wheelchair accessible. All exhibitions and displays are on the ground floor of the building and the upstairs activity rooms are easily accessible via the lift. Wheelchairs are also available to borrow on request.

Transport & Parking

2.5

There is no dedicated car parking at the Museum. The nearest public car park is the Q Park on Durham Road. There are three disabled parking spaces directly adjacent the museum at the top of Mushroom Lane and a further three disabled parking spaces available toward the bottom of Mushroom Lane near the tennis courts (access to the museum from these is through the park).  Blue badge holders can use Pay & Display bays on Mushroom Lane, (near the Dam House entrance) and Damer Street without the need to pay .

Access

4

There is level access to the service. There is not a hearing assistance system. This venue does not play background music. Motorised scooters are allowed in public parts of the venue. The lighting levels are varied. Not all exhibits can be audio described with tactile signage for exhibits is available and touch tours are available. The availability of touch tours depends on exhibition. There is a fixed loop hearing assistance system. Staff are definitely trained to use the hearing system. You can have a wheelchair to borrow but check availability on arrival with the foyer staff. Many of the exhibits are available to handle. Talks are given on some exhibitions and some of the talks are BSL interpreted.

Toilets

4

There are accessible toilets within this venue designated for public use but the toilet is not for the sole use of disabled people. There is tactile and pictorial signage on or near the toilet door. The accessible loo is near the main entrance on the main corridor to the left of the main entrance. There is level access to the accessible toilet and everywhere else :)

Staff

5

Staff do receive disability awareness / equality training. Documents are made available in large print. A bowl of water can be provided for an assistance dog. A member of staff trained in BSL skills is not generally on duty.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

Just my favourite venue in the whole of Sheffield for my kids. Just need to keep working with them to get a changing places loo. Staff are brilliant and so welcoming and helpful. The food at the café could be better ;)
