York Castle Museum - the best day out in history! Walk down our recreated Victorian street, visit York Castle Prison's infamous residents and swing back to The Sixties. Plus toys, fashion, living rooms and weapons from the last 400 years...Accessibility
Mobility: 3/4 of the museum is fully accessible via a lift (dimensions in inches = 68H x 40L x 30W). The other 1/4 of the museum consists of 46 "up" stairs and 47 "down" stairs (the most stairs in one go = 18) The museum can provide walking sticks and a wheelchair. Visual: The Victorian Street and Prison Cells are quite dark, but alternative routes are available. We use Sans Serif Fonts on all of our signs. Guide dogs are welcome. Hearing: Most of our visual displays have subtitles. Autism: As of 16th September 2016, we are holding Relaxed Openings every 3 months.

Toilets
We have two accessible toilets, one on each side of our museum. Both are accessible without going up or down stairs. Both are big enough for a medium-sized mobility scooter to go in; although it will most likely be necessary to reverse out. Both also have a hand rail.
