Overview
I attended Motability Live Harrogate to spread the word about Euan’s Guide to anyone who cared to listen, and I'm glad to say there were a lot who wanted to hear about our work and how to get involved! While I was there, I made sure to check out the Changing Places toilet in Hall 2. I was impressed by the spacious facility, though there are a few shortcomings.
Transport & Parking
Parking is available outside the entrance, but it is still a fair trek to the hall. When I attended, a shuttle service was available for disabled visitors. The venue is not the best for bus links, with the closest stop near the Sainsbury’s just short of a mile away. It is served by the 7 and X70 bus services.
Access
Toilets
The toilet door opens outwards and doesn’t require a RADAR key. Inside, there’s a ceiling track hoist and an adjustable changing bed, though the lack of a shower feels like a shortcoming. On either side of the toilet are adjustable rails. These are good in theory, but the placement of bins unfortunately blocks both transfer spaces, making them much harder to use. On the plus side, the black rails and toilet seat contrast clearly with the white bowl. A colostomy shelf is fitted into the right-hand transfer space. To the left of the toilet is an adjustable sink with a deep basin and a lever-style tap. The soap dispenser is positioned to the right of the sink, while the hand dryer is to the left. The red cord can be found to the left of the toilet when seated, and was hanging to the floor on my visit. As you might expect, the room is spacious, and this is one of the most spacious Changing Places toilets I've seen in a long time.
