Home of the first Duke of Wellington, Apsley House stands right in the heart of London at Hyde Park Corner.

The Duke – whose victories over Napoleon brought him fame and wealth – bought the house and remodelled it between 1819 and 1829.

Step inside to discover the magnificent Waterloo Gallery and the richly decorated Dining Room, glittering with diplomatic gifts presented to Wellington by monarchs, nations and admirers from across Europe.

The house is also home to an outstanding collection of art, including masterpieces by Velázquez, Rubens, Goya, Titian and Bruegel.

Disabled Access at Apsley House

Disabled access is very limited for those with impaired mobility, as there are no ramps and only one lift in the building. Visitors are advised to bring a companion. Limited, free parking is available for disabled visitors. It is essential to book parking in advance. Parking spaces are between 5-15m away from the entrance. Cobbled forecourt with 5 steps to the front door. Please note there is no ramp available. Due to the historic nature of the building, step-free access is unfortunately not available throughout the site. Six steps to the front door. Eight steps down to the lift. There are three steps down to the basement gallery. The multimedia guide is very descriptive and suitable for visually-impaired visitors. Access and assistance dogs welcome.

Transport nearby Apsley House

London Underground Hyde Park Corner Station (Piccadilly Line) is the closest Underground station to Apsley House. While the station has escalators between street and platform level, it is not step-free. Access to and from the platforms requires the use of stairs, making the station unsuitable for wheelchair users and some visitors with limited mobility. Green Park Station (Piccadilly, Victoria and Jubilee Lines) is located just one stop away on the Piccadilly Line and offers full step-free access via lifts between street and platform level. Green park is roughly a 15 minute walk away. National Rail London Victoria Station is the nearest National Rail station to Apsley House. Both the National Rail terminal and the Underground station provide step-free access, with lifts available between street, concourse and platform levels.
