Askham Bog is a remarkable survivor of the ancient fenlands of Yorkshire, and Yorkshire Wildlife Trust's first-ever reserve, now managed for over 75 years. Accessible nature reserve

Askham Bog is a nature reserve managed by the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust (YWT). Their website lists all sorts of flora and fauna you might see including water voles, roe deer and even Exmoor ponies! There are information boards to help you spot things. The path is circular and you are soon back to where you started - it’s not a big visit (the more agile can walk further beyond the boardwalk) but for a quick run out for some fresh air, it’s very pleasant and although it’s near the A64 you aren’t too aware of the traffic.

Disabled Access at Askham Bog Nature Reserve

Askham Bog Nature Reserve is a small nature reserve; in total it is of 44 hectares in size with approx 750 metres of accessible pathway. The path is mainly on wooden boardwalk – with a short downward section on dirt track, uphill on the route back to the carpark. The boardwalk is reasonably wide but only has a small toeboard fitted to the side, and the terrain off the boardwalk is boggy! The site is accessed via a wide Bridleway style gate.
