Birnie Loch

Overall Rating

Two former gravel and sand quarries converted into small lochs; a haven for wildlife and a very wheelchair and scooter friendly series of interconnected paths around both lochs. Complete circuit takes about 45 minutes at a leisurely pace. Lots of bench seats all the way around for stop offs many with stunning views of the lochs or hills beyond. Absence of toilets and limited disabled parking may put off some people however. Suggest you take a picnic along when enjoying the views and the peace and quiet.

Disabled Access In and Around

Excellent paths all the way around both lochs, very wheelchair and scooter friendly directly from the car park which also has a picnic area. If you choose to go around Loch Gaddon path, be aware there is a small incline to the excellent viewpoint over the loch; this won't be an issue for an electric wheelchair but may be a bit of a short push for a manual wheelchair.

Parking & Transport

Only one marked disabled parking bay in the car park which only holds about 20 cars. Probably not an issue during the week but it can get busy at weekends. Disabled bay numbers currently being reviewed by Fife countryside trust who manage the facility. Nearest large town is Cupar for facilities about 5 miles away. Between Cupar and Auchtermuchty , look for signs to Charlottetown. Entrance to car park not well signposted so be alert just after the junction.
