Fabulous experience, loved the show and the wonderful step free access made visit so accessible

Camden People's Theatre is a very accessible small, fringe theatre (i.e. off London's West End) which hosts a variety of shows. I've give the Camden People's Theatre, a rare score of 5 stars in every category, as the show was amazing, the theatre's website is full of useful access information, the theatre is on the ground floor, so level step free access without the need of any ramps or lifts throughout, accessible toilet and mega helpful staff who reserved step free seating before hand and were just so lovely on the day. It made it a delight to visit. We will be back.

Lovely experience

I had a lovely trip to the Camden People's Theatre this week. They were so nice and helpful. I purchased an access ticket online and then received an email personally written from Adam the front of house manager asking if there is anything they could do to make the experience be easiest for me. I was able to pick my choice of seat and to be seated first to avoid needing to queue and so I had longer to get myself settled. I picked a seat at one edge so that nobody would brush past me (I don't like it in theatres/cinemas if people have to squeeze past as if they knock me even a little bit it hurts me a lot - glad to avoid this happening!). I kept my folded mobility scooter right by my side and transfer to regular theatre seat (so I didn't feel worried about it going out of my sight/being misplaced/moved). The theatre has step-free level access from the pavement outside right to the seat itself so I was able to wheel in and no need for additional ramps as it's already flat. I actually saw a listing for the play I saw for a while ago in a different inaccessible venue but when I looked up the performance itself online it had other dates elsewhere so I looked up each venue and I saw this one so that's why I came to the CPT for this occasion. It's only since becoming unable to use steps that I have noticed most London theatres of similar size are inaccessible as typically are upstairs above pubs so I can't go so I am really pleased to have found this gem of a venue! Notes about my review: I don't know about parking nor transport as I came on my mobility scooter from home. There is an accessible toilet at the venue but I didn't need to use it so didn't check it out.

Disabled Access at Camden People's Theatre

Personal assistants If you require a personal assistant or carer with you, we will be happy to offer them a complimentary ticket. To arrange this, simply add a complimentary carer ticket to your basket when booking online. Otherwise, contact the box office directly at foh@cptheatre.co.uk if you need further support. Your tickets will be available for you to pick up from the box office on the night of your visit in the usual way. Medical assistance We welcome any customers to the venue who require medicines, food or drink or specific medical equipment to manage a medical condition. If at any time during your visit you have any concerns please let a member of staff know. At least one member of Box Office staff working each night will have completed basic health and safety training. We have a basic first aid kit onsite, and CPT is 5 minutes away from University College Hospital and a 7 minute walk away from A&E. Both of these are located roughly opposite Warren Street station. Assistance dogs We welcome assistance and guide dogs in CPT and are happy for them to accompany you in any of our spaces at the venue and can join you in the theatre for events. Alternatively, we can arrange someone to look after them throughout the performance in the bar area if you wish, just let us know on your arrival. Water will also be available on request. Programmes If an artist or company is supplying a programme for their performance, copies printed in a large, easy to read font are available upon request. Please notify us 48hrs in advance if you require an accessible programme. In the venue Camden People’s Theatre is step-free from the street, as well as both ground floor fire exits. Our theatre, dressing room, bar/café space and accessible toilet are located on the ground floor and are all fully wheelchair accessible. Door widths: Single front door – 93cm /36.6 inches Double front door (second entrance) – 148 cm / 58.2 inches Entrance to the theatre – 104 cm / 41 inches Entrance to dressing room – 86 cm / 33.8 inches Corridor width of basement staircase – 101 cm / 40 inches Entrance to basement performance space – 103 cm / 40.5 inches Entrance to accessible toilet on main floor – 92 cm / 36 inches Lift - 168 x 116 cm / 66 x 46 inches We have gender inclusive and accessible toilets located in the basement and in our foyer, approximately 10m from our theatre space. Our basement space can be accessed either via lift or stairs. In the theatre the majority of our seating is on raised platforms, however we have one row on the front ground level. Please let us know if you're a wheelchair user so we can remove enough seats to accommodate you. This advance notice is helpful for us as removing the benches has a consequential impact on seating capacity in the theatre. If you would prefer to not sit in your wheelchair for the performance let us know on your arrival and we will arrange this for you. A note for artists: Our lighting and sound desks are located at the back of the theatre space with a large step up. Unfortunately, currently this isn’t accessible to wheelchair users.
