Disabled Access Information Provided by Chelmsford Theatre

Disabled Access at Chelmsford Theatre

We strongly believe theatre is for everyone and we aim to make our foyers and auditoriums as accessible as we can. Both Chelmsford Theatre and Chelmsford Theatre Studio have step free access from the street, to our seating in the stall and Studio floor as well as our bar and cafe areas. The step free access to rows A to C of Chelmsford Theatre Studio is available via an access route to the side of the auditorium. There is currently no lift access to the first-floor balcony. We have an accessible toilet and a baby changing facility located in Chelmsford Theatre's foyer. Assistance and hearing dogs, including those in training, are welcome at our venue. As part of our programme we like to offer as many accessible performances to high quality shows. These include, BSL interpreted (positioned on the left-hand side of the auditorium), captioned, audio described and relaxed. We also offer our monthly Dementia Accessible Cinema, screening classic movies in a relaxed, catered environment for anyone who would find this beneficial. To enhance experience and improve access to performances in our auditoriums, we have a Sennheiser MobileConnect Wi-Fi based assistive listening system. This allows visitors to enjoy the event they are attending using their own mobile device. The Theatre box office also has mobile devices available to use for the performance. Our bars and Box Office are equipped with induction loop systems, look out for the locations highlighted by signs. If you need any assistance on the day of your visit, please make yourself known to our approachable and well-trained staff members. Our Access Scheme offers an opportunity for you to tell us about any access needs, so that we can best accommodate your visit and ensure you have an enjoyable experience. The scheme is free of charge and by joining the scheme, you will be able to: • Book tickets online for captioned, relaxed, BSL interpreted, and audio described performances. • Book a wheelchair space online. • Book free tickets for your Essential Companion/Personal Assistant. • Keep up to date with forthcoming accessible performances. You can join the scheme by submitting a form on our website or by calling the Box Office on 01245 606 505, Monday to Saturday 10am to 3pm.
