    Chetham's Library dates from 1653 and is the oldest surviving public library in the English-speaking world. The beautiful seventeenth-century interior is housed in well-preserved sandstone college buildings dating back to 1421. Open Monday-Friday 9-12.30 and 1.30-4.30.
