Duke Street food and drink market was a great place to get some food. It had multiple vendors inside all offering different types of food. There were different types of seating available and even some with plug sockets. I was able to scan a QR code that was on my table and that allowed me to look at the menus for all of the vendors in the market and order what I wanted. It was really simple and much easier than me going up to the counter to order as they were quite high.

    Disabled Access In and Around

There are no steps or ramps to get into the market. The entrance has a set of double doors that need to be pulled open. They are a bit heavy. There are no lips or bumps as you enter. Once inside, you can choose where to sit. There are lots of different types of tables, smaller ones with bench seats and moveable seats, longer communal tables with benches along them and there is even a bar area at the back. Along the left-hand side of the space are the food vendors. They all have a counter you can order at with menus on display. You can also look at the menus and even order what you want by scanning the QR code on your table. There seemed to be an upstairs area but there was no lift so I wasn’t sure what was up there.

I travelled to this place by walk or wheel

Just outside the market, around 30 metres down the street, is a bus stop called Campbell Street. From here you can get the buses 80, 80A, and 82A. On the opposite side of the road, almost directly opposite the market, is another bus stop called York Street and here you can get those same buses in the opposite direction. Around 350 metres away is the Liverpool ONE bus station where there are lots of buses and coaches available. Liverpool Central Metro Station is around 600 metres away and James Street Metro Station is about 850 metres away from the market. Around 350 metres away is the car park Q-Park Hanover Street. This car park is a paid car park that offers accessible parking spaces and EV charging bays.

    Accessible Toilets

There was an accessible toilet at the back of the building. The door opened outwards and was quite light and didn’t need a RADAR key. On the inside, there was a horizontal grab rail to assist with closing the door shut. The lock was a long handle that you pushed into an upright position to lock the door. This was definitely a mechanism that could be operated with a fist or elbow. The space was quite small with not a lot of transfer area or space for another person. The toilet was on the right-hand side and had no lid and a visible cistern which also provided some back support. There was a small amount of space for a left-side transfer, however, a large bin had been left in the space, totally obstructing it. There was a height-adjustable grab rail that could be lowered down beside the toilet, and a vertical grab rail alongside it. Another horizontal grab rail was on the other side of the toilet, beneath the toilet paper dispenser. The flush was a circular button and it was mounted on the cistern. It was placed on the same side as the transfer area so you did not have to reach across the toilet to use it. The button was a bit small so it could be difficult to push it with a fist or elbow. In front of the toilet was a small sink with a single tap on the left-hand side. The tap was manually operated and had a small handle which seemed like it could be operated with a fist or elbow. The tap twisted to control the temperature of the water and lifted to control the flow. There was a vertical grab rail on either side of the sink and a mirror above the sink. To the right was a manual soap dispenser and an automatic hand dryer. Opposite the sink was a baby-changing table mounted on the wall. The red cord was hanging freely but because of its position by the toilet, the end was behind a sanitary bin and was difficult to see and reach. I made sure to adjust this and attached a Euan’s Guide Red Cord Card.

The staff seemed really nice, I only interacted with them as they brought the items I had ordered over but the service was quite prompt.
