East Princes Street Gardens

The East Princes Street Gardens holds a little known secret for wheelchair users. Instead of descending from Princes Street and taking the long double ended ramp down toward the Galleries there is another more interesting route.

Princes Street Gardens runs along one side of Princess Street, one of the main thoroughfares of Edinburgh, with amazing views over to Edinburgh Castle. The Garden is split into two separate parks, East and West Gardens. This review is for the East Gardens, which I found easier to get around. Please see separate listening for the West Garden. The East Garden is from Waverley Station/ Sir Walter Scott's Memorial to the National Galleries of Scotland. While it is very easy to get to, it is very difficult to get around, with only some step free paths being safely accessible, as the gardens lie in a valley.

Exploring Princes Street and feeling the need to "take time out" it was great to dip into the Gardens and see the green space, grab a coffee and admire the engineering of the Festival Wheel.
