In East Burrows Road pay and display car park there were two EV charging stations which were operated by Clenergy. One was placed alongside an accessible parking bay so there was some extra space on the left-hand side of the space as you looked at it. Otherwise, the spaces were fairly narrow and wouldn’t have provided a lot of space on either side. The connector was a Type 2 socket providing up to 22kW. There was one machine that provided power to both of the bays. It required a cable to be attached so you would need to have your own cable to be able to use these bays. The docking point was on a raised pavement with the only dropped curb being outside of the car park. Even when I was on the pavement the docking point was quite high up and it would have been difficult to lift the heavy charging cable into the docking point from my wheelchair. Above the docking point were some very small instructions that I couldn’t read because they were too high and too small, and a touchpoint for cards. Overall, these weren’t very accessible charging bays. The spaces were narrow and it would be very awkward to connect your vehicle if you need step-free access.

These two bays were quite narrow and didn’t have much space around them. To the right of the bays were two standard bays and to the left were the accessible bays. The left-hand bay did have some extra space on the left-hand side, as you looked at it, where it was alongside one of the accessible bays. The docking point was on the pavement and had a bollard in front of it. The only dropped curb to get onto the pavement was outside of the car park. So those needing step-free access would have to attach the cable to their vehicle, leave it on the pavement, go all the way around, then pick up the cable and try to attach it to the charging station. The docking point was also quite high from my wheelchair which would also make plugging in quite difficult. The instructions on how to use the machine were really small and too high so I was unable to read them. I didn’t see any alternative formats available either.

These bays were located in East Burrows Road pay and display car park which has 165 spaces including 9 accessible bays. It is an open car park with no shelter from bad weather and some of the tarmac was quite uneven. There is no height restriction for this car park.
